MCF’s Future Leaders intern programme offers you a voluntary opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and confidence in the charitable third sector and boost your work experience, particularly if you are interested in international aid, local development and Muslim charities. You will be well supported, learning a wide range of skills in a small, but very busy office.

We have several exciting projects in the pipeline and are seeking voluntary interns who wish to obtain experience in the charity sector for their future career. We believe in providing opportunities for those interested in working within civil society and the charity sector, to gain vital understanding and experience to help them build a successful career. Our previous Future Leaders have benefitted from placement experience working within MCF and used this time to move on to paid work experience both within MCF and further afield, within other charities, organisations or governmental departments.
Qualities we are looking for in potential candidates:
- * Graduate or currently on an undergraduate/post-graduate degree in International Relations, Politics, Communications, English Language, or similar fields.
- * Some understanding of the UK political system, international development and/or human rights.
- * Interest and some understanding of the Muslim Charity sector
- * A proactive and well organised approach- ability to adapt to rapid changes in the work environment.
- * Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised and/or work alongside team members and draw upon support.
- * Commitment to MCF’s values rooted in our Islamic Faith.
Commitment:
- * 3-6 months commitment required, days to be confirmed with Manager.
- * 3 days per week typically, working core hours between 10am-5pm, from our office near Waterloo.
Learning & Outcomes
- * Better insight into International aid and development.
- * Knowledge of the Muslim Charity sector, large and small INGO’s
- * Understanding in depth the challenges faced by the Muslim INGO and third sector and learning how collaboration, innovation, research and advocacy aim to tackle these issues.
- * Skills development in project management, advocacy and social action.
- * Working within a busy office with a core team
Skills gained will vary from person to person, however some of our interns have become involved in desk research (collating and analysing data), report writing, producing social media content for different audiences, networking skills representing MCF at events, event planning and management, contributing to ideas and suggestions about how to develop MCF’s Future Leaders Programme. You may also have a particular area of focus which has been identified as needing support, such a working on projects affecting refugees/asylum seekers, women, emergency response, marketing and development, governance, policy or social mobility and change.

Hours: Full-time
Role: 3- 6 month placement, 3 days per week in office, unpaid. Expenses will be covered.
Location: London SE1, closest London Underground station Lambeth North
Salary: Please note this role is voluntary and unpaid. Transport and lunch expenses will be reimbursed.
