Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power, descends upon us during the last ten nights of Ramadan, a night described in the Qur’an as “better than a thousand months” (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:3).

It is a night of immense blessings, forgiveness, and unparalleled spiritual significance. As we strive to maximise our worship and seek Allah’s mercy, we are also reminded of the profound impact of giving during this sacred time.

The act of giving, or sadaqah, is a cornerstone of our faith, and its rewards are multiplied during Laylatul Qadr. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known to be exceptionally generous during Ramadan, especially in the last ten nights. Imagine the potential rewards of giving on a night that surpasses the value of a thousand months!

Why Give on Laylatul Qadr?

The Qur’an emphasizes the importance of spending in the way of Allah, particularly for those in need. Allah says, “And whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward” (Surah Al-Muzzammil, 73:20). Laylatul Qadr offers an unparalleled opportunity to invest in our akhirah (hereafter) by giving generously.

Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honour, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status.” (Sahih Muslim). In a time of immense spiritual elevation, giving purifies our hearts, strengthens our connection with Allah, and brings us closer to His mercy.

Give Smart, Give Safe: Maximising Your Impact

At Muslim Charities Forum, we advocate for giving smart and safe. This means ensuring your donations reach those who truly need them, and that they are used effectively and transparently.

Here are some key considerations for giving during Laylatul Qadr:

Verify the Charity: Ensure the organisation you are donating to is registered and reputable. Do your research and look for transparency reports, annual reviews, and clear financial accountability.#

Understand the Cause: Be clear about where your donation is going and what impact it will have. Look for organisations that provide detailed information about their projects and beneficiaries.

Give Locally and Globally: While supporting international causes is vital, remember the importance of giving to those in need within your own community. Local mosques, food banks, and shelters often rely on donations, especially during Ramadan.

Consider Sustainable Giving: Support projects that empower communities and provide long-term solutions, such as education, healthcare, and livelihood programs.

The Power of Intention

Remember, the value of our actions is determined by our intentions. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim). When giving on Laylatul Qadr, make a sincere niyyah to seek Allah’s pleasure and to alleviate the suffering of others.
