Make sure your Ramadan donations reach those in need
As British Muslims enter the month of Ramadan, Muslim Charities Forum, The Charity Commission for England and Wales and The Fundraising Regulator have come together to issue advice on giving safely to registered charities with the publication of a joint press release.
Ramadan is a time of huge generosity among British Muslims, with millions of pounds given in charitable donations of Zakat and Sadaqah each year. To ensure donors are informed and can give with confidence, we are reminding donors of the potential of their donations in creating real impact through giving to registered charities.
Most fundraising is genuine, however fraudsters sometimes take advantage of public generosity at times of increased giving, misleading donors by using methods such as WhatsApp messages and email that falsely use the name of genuine charities, or are from unregulated sources.
Using simple checks and giving with intention to create the most impact, your donation can help to change the lives of vulnerable people and ensure you stay protected.
“Giving during the month of Ramadan always rises as the month holds additional spiritual significance and reward, and this generosity must be both protected and encouraged. We urge Muslim donors to continue to give generously but to do so with caution. Stopping to think and do the necessary checks before donation will ensure that precious funds reach those in genuine need, can make a real impact in the fight against poverty and importantly, support effective charities in their continued commendable efforts to change the situations of vulnerable people.” – Fadi Itani OBE, CEO Muslim Charities Forum
