Today, Monday 4th March 2024, the Charity Commission for England and Wales has published new guidance for charities about accepting donations.
Charities should always start from a point of accepting donations, however occasionally situations arise where by it becomes necessary for charities to consider if a donation is in their best interests.
Trustees should not allow personal views to guide their decision but instead remained guided by their charitable organisation’s purpose. Charities should weight up long and short-term risk in accepting or returning or refusing a donation and how this may affect both their donor audience and beneficiaries.
